Abstract
A collaboration among UF/IFAS Extension agents facilitated successful delivery of The Great Southeast Pollinator Census (GSEPC) in Florida. Multi-county cooperation enabled a coordinated, statewide approach to educating communities, expanding pollinator-friendly habitats, and collecting vital citizen science data. Working together, agents maximized their collective expertise, resources, and outreach, significantly amplifying the program’s impact. The cooperation among agents extended to its promotional strategies and program delivery. By leveraging statewide networks and social media platforms, agents reached a combined audience of over 1.2 million individuals. This broad exposure increased program participation, with 53 counties engaging in the 2024 census and 2,800 individuals recording 86,984 pollinators. Additionally, the initiative directly connected close to 4,000 people through in-person events, reinforcing the value of hands-on learning and community involvement. The unified effort allowed for streamlined resource allocation, reducing duplication, and optimizing time and resources. Beyond outreach, collaboration strengthened program credibility and stakeholder engagement. Joint efforts enhanced visibility among local communities, and conservation organizations, creating opportunities for future partnerships and resource support. The collective expertise of agents enriched program content, integrating diverse perspectives and scientific knowledge to foster greater public understanding of pollinator conservation. The impact of this partnership extended beyond data collection. Through shared efforts, agents empowered residents to take tangible action in their communities, leading to the creation of 107 new pollinator gardens and the documentation of over 100 plant species supporting pollinators. These outcomes highlight the long-term benefits of a cooperative approach to conservation education. Looking ahead, UF/IFAS Extension agents will continue strengthening their collaboration to expand the program’s reach and effectiveness. By building on the success of the 2024 census, they aim to enhance pollinator conservation efforts across Florida, showing the power of teamwork in achieving large-scale environmental goals.
