Abstract
The 4-H Youth Entrepreneur Camp, hosted by Bradford and Union County 4-H in 2023 and 2024, aimed to equip youth with workforce skills through entrepreneurial education. This three-day camp introduced participants to business planning, marketing, and financial management, preparing future agricultural entrepreneurs while strengthening relationships with present agriculturalists. By the end of the camp, 100% (n-23) of youth were expected to develop and present a business plan with marketing strategies and financial projections. The agents aimed to establish several local business partnerships through the camp to provide mentorship and resources for youth-led initiatives. The camp collaborated with local agricultural business owners who provided real-world insights. On day one, agents and industry experts shared presentations on business foundations and financial literacy. Day two included visits to various agricultural operations, where the youth engaged in hands-on business strategy activities. These businesses included a local feed mill, deer farm, dog grooming facility, lumber mill, and livestock operations. These partnerships extended beyond the camp, offering ongoing support for 4-H programs and emphasizing the importance of community involvement in youth development. On day three, youth applied their knowledge by developing and presenting their own business models to a panel of community leaders and industry professionals. Participants demonstrated significant knowledge gains, with many expressing interests in starting their own businesses. Judge evaluations showed that 100% of the youth successfully developed and presented business plans, including marketing tools. Feedback from the camp indicated a solid understanding of key business concepts. Moreover, 86% (n=23) of the youth gained insights into various career opportunities within the agricultural industry. Agriculturalists involved in the camp gained a greater appreciation for 4-H, boosting support for future initiatives. Youth participants reported increased confidence in their ability to pursue entrepreneurial ventures and apply business concepts in real-world settings. The camp effectively combined entrepreneurship education with agriculture industry exposure, providing a replicable model for other programs to gain workforce readiness. Continued collaboration with agriculturalists enhances 4-H's impact on rural economies by inspiring the next generation of agricultural entrepreneurs. Strengthening these connections supports sustainable growth and empowers youth to become innovative leaders in their communities.
