Abstract
Extension professionals, no matter their rank, have an obligation to share knowledge with others in the field. Using a poster to share scholarship and outstanding programs is an excellent way to disseminate best practices in Extension work. Posters are an excellent way to showcase your work at conferences and meetings. Posters are an excellent alternative to a traditional oral presentation - they are concise, visual, and lead to one-on-one conversations. Come learn what programs and components are expected in a professional poster and how you can be successful with them.
This session will give an overview of what a Professional Poster is, how to put it together, how to document a poster in your CV and how your poster can lead you to connect with other professionals. Poster presentations are a time-honored form of scholarship that allow professionals to share their research or programs in a concise way. Posters are durable and after presenting them they can easily be shared with a larger audience digitally or in an office space. We will share best practices for preparing a stand-out poster. This starts with selecting an appropriate topic, knowing your audience, and developing your poster concept. Then we will share ways to make your poster visually interesting, help it to flow logically, and share data graphically. We will talk about the logistics of presenting a poster, including travel, display, and staffing the poster. Finally, we will talk about the impact of presenting a poster, following up with interested colleagues, and documenting your poster presentation in your annual reports and CV.
