Abstract

The current pecan market for Southeastern pecan growers has a very low margin. Growers are already cutting significant costs by planting low-input, disease resistant varieties. Growers can also save significant inputs by establishing a pre-emergent herbicide program. In 2023 and 2024, research on pre-emergent herbicides was conducted at the University of Georgia’s Vidalia Onion Research Center. The area pecan agent applied 8 different pre-emergent herbicide combinations and rates in a randomized block design for both research and demonstration. Ratings were taken at 30, 60 , 90 and 160 days after treatment (DAT). The economics of each program were determined using 2025 price data from University of Georgia Department of Economics.
