Abstract

The purpose was to conduct tomato research to address needs of a local farming cooperative. The goal was to screen tomato spotted wilt resistant (TSWV) varieties, as well as screen the efficacy of fungicides for their control of white mold “Sclerotium rolfsii”. The varieties were screened in three variety trials and evaluated on yield, size, and relative maturity. No significant difference in yield among varieties were recorded, however, fruit size and maturity were consistent across all replications. In the current transplant dip trial, early stand counts have shown significant differences in fungicide drenches. Treatments currently have plant stands of 96.25% and 65% versus a 48.75% stand in the untreated check across all replications. In conclusion, conducting the tomato variety trial has given Farm Fresh Tattnall members an opportunity to compare varieties in their area under scientifically managed conditions. Also, the application of fungicide drenches at planting show favorable control of Sclerotium rolfsii, however more research needs to be conducted.
