Abstract
Historical Floods of South Carolina introduces the four types of floods and discusses eight major historical hurricanes and flooding events causing significant damage, financial costs, and fatalities in South Carolina. Many resources were used, and documented in the references cited section, to compile the information; and the document went through a peer review process prior to publication. The content will serve stakeholders and officials seeking to gain insights and knowledge to mitigate flooding impacts and consequences in the future. This is becoming a necessity as data shows that flooding events in SC have become a familiar sight in many parts of the state and are occurring more frequently and will likely intensify in the future in flood zones and in areas that previously did not experience flooding. Tremendous damage can happen to critical infrastructure, agriculture, and cities. Having background knowledge to reference, aids community decision-makers and citizens in planning for the future. The publication encourages utilizing nature-based solutions such as storage ponds and impervious surfaces to address floodwater peaks and volumes; ultimately improving flood risk, improving water quality, stabilizing shorelines, and protecting wetlands and essential infrastructure. This publication was picked up by both the Morning AgClips Americas #1 AG News Source, and Climate and Agriculture in the Southeast a University of Georgia publication. To date, the publication, I co-authored, has had 2121 pageviews on the Clemson Land Grant Press website.
