Abstract

This presentation was delivered on July 3, 2023, as part of Master Gardener Mondays, a continuing education series for South Carolina Master Gardeners. The topic was selected as a follow-up to a previous session presented on February 6, 2023, which focused on the definitions of the terms “native,” “invasive,” and “regulated.” This session aimed to provide SC Master Gardeners with native alternatives to common invasive species in South Carolina that they could utilize in their home landscapes and when working with the public. Two hundred twenty-two Master Gardeners attended the live Zoom webinar. Of the fifty-nine that completed the program evaluation, 98.3% (59/59) indicated learning new information about invasive species in South Carolina and potential native replacements. 89.8% (53/59) said they plan to act as a result of the webinar. 34.65 (28/81) said they plan to remove an invasive species in their yard and replace it with a native species. 48.1% (39/81) said they plan to encourage family, friends, or neighbors to remove invasive species and replace them with native species. 3.7% (3/81) said they plan to create a presentation on this topic for their local ‘Speakers Bureau.’
