Abstract

Many South Carolinians rely on a private well for their drinking water source. Proper well maintenance and water quality testing are the well owner's responsibility and are essential to ensure safe drinking water. It is easy for well owners to become overwhelmed with all the different well components, upkeep of the well, and water testing options. In response to this need for well education in SC, the Clemson Extension Water Resources team developed the Be Well Informed Online Course. Here, well owners can dive into three modules covering South Carolina's groundwater resources, well maintenance, and water quality. The course is free for all, self-paced, and uses videos, pre/post quizzes, and factsheets in a way that is easily digestible for participants! Course team members were directly involved in creating all educational materials used for the course. The course is available at https://cpe.clemson.edu/browse/extension/water-resources/courses/be-well-informed.
